We would also like to share IG2’s story to provide a better understanding of the kind of company we are.
We are Greg Bullard and Greg Stangle, the founders and owners of IG2. We first met in the early 1990s on our first day of new student orientation at DePaul University College of Law in Chicago. After graduating from law school and spending the early part of our legal careers practicing technology and corporate law in the same firm, we both joined Rudnick & Wolfe as founding members of its Information Technology Law Practice (which later became DLA Piper’s Business and Technology Practice). As young technology attorneys during the height of the technology boom, we negotiated cutting-edge tech deals for our clients and advised them on important issues like information security, privacy, data breaches, intellectual property protection and compliance with laws and regulations including the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, Sarbanes-Oxley and HIPAA. Little did we know back then that the experience we were gaining as attorneys would prove to be such a tremendous asset to our clients at IG2, who face many of these same issues on a daily basis.
By the early 2000s, with data growth exploding, many of our law clients had expressed concerns with properly managing and storing their sensitive data and sought our help in finding professional solutions. After spending years on the client side, sourcing and evaluating vendors, and with plenty of war stories, we decided to start our own company to provide the high-level services that our clients required. In 2002, with the support of our family and friends, we founded IG2. Focusing on data and IP security, we opened a small Firelock data vault facility on Chicago’s west side and sought clients that took data security seriously. From the beginning, our mission was to provide solutions with the same high level of professionalism that we offered our clients as attorneys.
In our start-up days, we did it all, including making cold calls, going on sales pitches, building our website, buying office supplies, making the coffee, working in the vault and making deliveries. We built the business from the ground up by listening to our clients and creating solutions that helped them. Fortunately, the market responded to our message and our business has grown tremendously, expanding to include additional information management services requested by our clients. Over the years, we built a team of employees that share our client-first approach. Today, many of our early employees are still with us and our clients benefit every day from their knowledge and dedication.
In 2008, we faced a problem that we were happy to have. Our business had outgrown our facility and we needed to expand to accommodate growth from existing and new clients. In the fall of 2010, after 2 years of planning, designing and building, we moved our operation into our new 1.6 acre headquarters facility in Schaumburg, Illinois featuring the largest Firelock vault in the world. Our new facility gives us the platform to serve our clients for many years to come. As we celebrate our 10th anniversary in 2012, we remain grateful to all of our clients that have put their trust in us. We will continue to work hard to maintain this trust and pursue excellence in all we do.
